Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a use-after-free condition in the Accessibility feature of Google Chrome on Windows platforms before version 147.0.7727.138. Exploitation requires that an attacker first compromise the renderer process, after which they could leverage this flaw to perform a sandbox escape via a crafted HTML page. The vulnerability is rated with a CVSS 3.1 score of 8.8, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The vendor has released an update to fix this issue as noted in the official Chrome stable channel update announcement.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker with control over the renderer process to escape the Chrome sandbox, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution with elevated privileges on the host system. This compromises the security boundaries intended to isolate web content and protect the underlying operating system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should update Google Chrome to version 147.0.7727.138 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. The vendor advisory confirms the availability of this update as the official fix. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the update.
