Vendor/Project: ondata
Product: ckan-mcp-server

Description

CVE-2026-73846 is a medium severity vulnerability in ondata's ckan-mcp-server prior to version 0.4.112. The issue arises from improper serialization of request parameters in the canonicalizeParams function, which allows different logical parameter sets to collide. This can enable an attacker to prime a shared cache with a response intended for a victim's distinct query. The vulnerability is fixed in version 0.4.112.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in ckan-mcp-server versions before 0.4.112 involves insufficient verification of data authenticity due to unescaped serialization of request parameters (ampersand, equals-sign, vertical-bar) in the canonicalizeParams function. This flaw allows logically distinct parameter sets to produce the same cache key, leading to cache poisoning where an attacker can cause the server to return cached responses for queries different from those originally requested. This issue is addressed by proper escaping and was fixed in version 0.4.112.

Potential Impact

An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to prime the shared cache with malicious or incorrect responses that will be served to other users querying distinct parameters. This can lead to integrity issues where users receive incorrect data, potentially impacting trust and reliability of the data served by the ckan-mcp-server. The CVSS score of 6.5 reflects a medium severity with low confidentiality impact but high integrity impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ckan-mcp-server to version 0.4.112 or later, where the issue is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated or necessary as the fix addresses the root cause.
