Published: 10/13/2026 (10/13/2026, 13:27:26 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Wazuh
Product: wazuh-manager

Description

CVE-2026-74031 is a path traversal vulnerability in Wazuh wazuh-manager versions from 4.1.1 up to but not including 4.14.8. It affects the delete_rule_file and delete_decoder_file helper functions, allowing malicious cluster workers with the cluster key to delete arbitrary files by supplying unvalidated filename parameters with traversal sequences. This can lead to deletion of critical configuration files such as ossec.conf, client.keys, or rules, executed with the privileges of the wazuh user.

Technical Analysis

Wazuh wazuh-manager versions >=4.1.1 and <4.14.8 contain a path traversal vulnerability in the delete_rule_file and delete_decoder_file helpers. Malicious cluster workers possessing the cluster key can exploit this vulnerability via the DistributedAPI by passing specially crafted filename parameters containing traversal sequences. This allows deletion of arbitrary files, including important configuration files like ossec.conf, client.keys, or rules, under the wazuh user's privileges.

Potential Impact

An attacker with cluster key privileges can delete arbitrary files on the system running wazuh-manager, including critical configuration files. This can disrupt the operation of the Wazuh manager and potentially impact the security monitoring capabilities. The deletion occurs with the permissions of the wazuh user, which may limit but does not eliminate the potential damage.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to cluster keys to trusted entities only to prevent exploitation. Monitor for unusual deletion activity related to Wazuh configuration files.
