Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Wazuh
Product: wazuh-manager

Description

CVE-2026-74034 is a high-severity vulnerability in Wazuh wazuh-manager versions 4.1.0 through before 4.14.8. Technical Analysis

Wazuh wazuh-manager versions >=4.1.0 and <4.14.8 contain a missing authorization check in the wm_agent_upgrade function. Enrolled agents can exploit this by injecting upgrade_custom messages with attacker-controlled file_path parameters over the agent communication channel. This vulnerability allows unauthorized reading of arbitrary files on the server with root privileges, including critical system files such as /etc/shadow and client.keys, which could lead to credential compromise.

Potential Impact

An attacker with an enrolled agent can exploit this vulnerability to read arbitrary files on the wazuh-manager server as root. This includes highly sensitive files like /etc/shadow and client.keys, which contain password hashes and cryptographic keys, respectively. The exposure of these files can lead to full system compromise or lateral movement within the environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

The vulnerability affects Wazuh wazuh-manager versions from 4.1.0 up to but not including 4.14.8. Users should upgrade to version 4.14.8 or later where this issue is fixed. Since no vendor advisory or patch link is provided in the input, confirm patch availability and upgrade guidance from the official Wazuh resources. Until patched, restrict agent enrollment and monitor for suspicious upgrade_custom commands.
