CVE-2026-74035: Incorrect Authorization in Wazuh wazuh-manager
Description
Wazuh versions from 4.6.0 before 4.14.8 contain an authentication bypass vulnerability where security.update_user places the reserved user guard and password policy inside a falsy truthiness check. A delegated user administrator can send an empty password to the user update endpoint, bypassing the reserved user guard to take over the wazuh superuser account and authenticate with empty credentials.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-74035 is an authentication bypass vulnerability in Wazuh wazuh-manager affecting versions >=4.6.0 and <4.14.8. The issue arises because the security.update_user function incorrectly places the reserved user guard and password policy inside a falsy truthiness check. This allows a delegated user administrator to send an empty password to the user update endpoint, bypassing protections and enabling takeover of the superuser account with empty credentials.
Potential Impact
An attacker with delegated user administrator privileges can bypass authentication controls to assume the superuser account without providing a password. This compromises the highest privilege level in wazuh-manager, potentially allowing full control over the system's security management functions.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict delegated user administrator privileges and monitor for suspicious user update activities involving empty passwords.
