AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to enforce CAP_NET_ADMIN permission checks on TIPCv2 netlink mutators. The fix aligns TIPCv2 behavior with the legacy TIPC netlink API, preventing unauthorized state changes. Users should update to patched kernel versions as provided by their distribution or vendor. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's TIPCv2 netlink mutators allowed local unprivileged users to change TIPC state without requiring administrative permissions. This issue was due to missing CAP_NET_ADMIN checks on certain generic-netlink operations. The flaw was fixed by enforcing the appropriate permission checks, aligning TIPCv2 behavior with the legacy TIPC netlink API. Exploitation could allow local users to modify network identifiers, node identity, key material, and UDP bearer settings. A patch is available to address this issue.
