A patch is available that corrects the Route Information option length validation to comply with RFC 4191. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that address this issue. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. No additional mitigation is necessary as the vulnerability is resolved by the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPv6 implementation related to Route Information option length validation was resolved. The kernel incorrectly validated the length of the Route Information option against the prefix length, allowing it to read up to 8 bytes beyond the option boundary. This out-of-bounds read causes the kernel to include unintended data in the installed route prefix, which can be observed by userspace. The flaw was fixed by rejecting option lengths not allowed by RFC 4191.
