AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented and is available in Linux kernel versions 4.10, 4.15, and 4.16 and corresponding commits. Users and administrators should upgrade to these fixed versions or later to mitigate the vulnerability. Since this is a kernel-level issue, applying the official patches or updating the kernel is the recommended remediation.

Description

CVE-2026-74599 is a Linux kernel vulnerability related to race conditions in the page table dumping (ptdump) code. It involves improper synchronization when performing ptdump over memory management structures other than init_mm, potentially causing races with kernel page table freeing. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions from 4.4.125 up to and including 4.16. A fix has been implemented by acquiring a nested mmap write lock on init_mm in the ptdump code to prevent these races.
