AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve this issue. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this vulnerability has been fixed in updated kernel packages. Users should update their systems and reboot to apply the fix. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPv6 subsystem was resolved. The function in6_dev_get() could increment the reference count of an inet6_dev object after it had been freed, leading to potential memory corruption. This flaw was reproducible on unpatched kernel versions and could result in system instability or compromise. The issue was fixed by changing the reference counting logic to prevent resurrection of freed objects. Multiple specific Linux kernel versions are affected. A patch is available from the vendor.
