A fix is available that properly manages the reference counting of the NFLOG backend logger module in the ebt_nflog subsystem. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel patches that include this fix. The vendor advisory confirms the vulnerability has been resolved in patched versions.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's netfilter ebt_nflog component was resolved. The issue involved improper reference counting of the NFLOG backend logger module, allowing an ebtables nflog rule to remain callable after the nfnetlink_log module was unloaded. This could lead to a kernel memory access error detected by KASAN. The fix ensures proper acquisition and release of the ULOG logger module reference during rule validation and destruction, preventing module teardown while rules are active.
