A fix for this vulnerability is available and has been applied in specific Linux kernel commits. Users and administrators should update to a Linux kernel version that includes these fixes. No additional mitigation actions are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA usb-audio driver causes an out-of-bounds (OOB) write on Type II inbound USB audio requests. The issue arises because the buffer size for URB transfers is computed before accounting for an extra packet delimiter, leading to a buffer that is one packet too small. This results in the last ISO frame descriptor pointing past the end of the allocated buffer, causing an OOB write during inbound audio capture transfers. The flaw affects devices advertising a Type II capture format and was discovered through KASAN testing. The vulnerability has been fixed in specific Linux kernel commits.
