Technical Analysis

The MultiVendorX WordPress plugin before version 5.0.16 fails to verify that a user owns the store they are modifying in one of its REST API endpoints. This missing authorization (CWE-862) enables any authenticated user to overwrite details and payout settings of any store, including replacing the ownership record. The vulnerability affects versions from 5.0.0 up to but excluding 5.0.16.

Potential Impact

An attacker with any authenticated user account, including subscriber-level accounts, can alter store information and payout configurations of other stores they do not own. This could disrupt store operations and potentially redirect payments or ownership, impacting the integrity and trustworthiness of the marketplace.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade the MultiVendorX plugin to version 5.0.16 or later, where this authorization issue is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated. Patch status is confirmed by the version range indicating the fix in 5.0.16.
