CVE-2026-77931: Improper Neutralization of Input Used for LLM Prompting in jxxghp MoviePilot
Description
MoviePilot through 3.1.5 contains a command injection vulnerability that allows attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands by embedding malicious instructions in untrusted content processed through tools like browse_webpage, search_web, and torrent metadata parsers, which then get passed to the unrestricted ExecuteCommandTool via asyncio.create_subprocess_shell. Attackers can craft content that instructs the model to invoke execute_command with confirm_dangerous set to true, bypassing the validate_command_safety denylist and exploiting the admin session's is_admin context to achieve remote code execution on the host.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-77931 is a command injection vulnerability in MoviePilot through version 3.1.5. Attackers can embed malicious instructions in untrusted content processed by tools such as browse_webpage, search_web, and torrent metadata parsers. These instructions are passed to the ExecuteCommandTool via asyncio.create_subprocess_shell without proper neutralization. By crafting content that sets confirm_dangerous to true, attackers bypass the validate_command_safety denylist and exploit the is_admin context of the admin session to execute arbitrary OS commands remotely on the host.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows remote code execution on the host system with admin privileges, potentially leading to full system compromise. The vulnerability has a high severity score (CVSS 8.7) indicating significant impact if exploited.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, avoid processing untrusted content through the affected tools or restrict usage to trusted inputs only.
