Technical Analysis

The User Registration & Membership WordPress plugin prior to version 5.2.8 contains a CWE-601 open redirect vulnerability. Specifically, it fails to validate the destination of a post-login redirect, enabling unauthenticated attackers to redirect visitors to arbitrary external URLs. This flaw can be abused to conduct phishing attacks by redirecting users to malicious sites after login.

Potential Impact

An attacker can redirect users to arbitrary external URLs after login without authentication. This can facilitate phishing attacks by tricking users into visiting malicious websites. The vulnerability does not impact confidentiality, integrity, or availability directly but poses a medium risk due to potential phishing exploitation.
