AI-suggested
A fix is available that bounds the EEPROM address before copying data, rejecting any out-of-bounds addresses reported by the device. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch to mitigate the vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mt76 WiFi driver for the mt7996 device allows a malicious or malfunctioning device to cause an out-of-bounds write by reporting an arbitrary EEPROM address. This occurs because the driver clamps only the copy length but not the destination offset, potentially leading to memory corruption. The issue is fixed by rejecting responses with addresses that would place the copy outside the EEPROM data buffer.
