A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mt76 wifi driver for the mt7996 device allows a malicious or malfunctioning device to cause an out-of-bounds write by reporting an arbitrary EEPROM address. This occurs because the driver clamps the copy length but not the destination offset, potentially leading to memory corruption. The issue is resolved by rejecting responses with addresses outside the valid EEPROM data range.
