Vendor/Project: radareorg
Product: radare2

Description

CVE-2026-81881 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in radare2's Mach-O Swift field-metadata parser prior to version 6.2.0. The issue arises when a relative Swift field pointer is lower than the field-metadata section base, causing an invalid negative index and reading memory before the allocated buffer. This can lead to incorrect metadata processing or process termination. No memory disclosure or attacker-observable impact has been demonstrated. The vulnerability is fixed in radare2 version 6.2.0.

Technical Analysis

radare2 versions prior to 6.2.0 contain an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Mach-O Swift field-metadata parser. Specifically, a relative Swift field pointer can be lower than the base of the field-metadata section, causing subtraction to produce a negative logical index. This index is then used to read four bytes immediately before the allocated field-metadata buffer. The vulnerability is triggered by parsing crafted Mach-O files containing Swift type and class metadata. While this can cause incorrect metadata processing or process termination, no attacker-observable memory disclosure has been demonstrated. The issue is resolved in version 6.2.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can cause incorrect processing of Swift metadata or cause the radare2 process to terminate unexpectedly. There is no evidence of memory disclosure or other attacker-observable impacts. The CVSS score of 3.3 reflects a low severity impact primarily related to availability (process termination).

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade radare2 to version 6.2.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is required as the issue is resolved by this official fix.
