AI-suggested

Users should ensure that client applications only connect to trusted local X servers to minimize exposure. Red Hat does not provide an official fix or workaround at this time.

Description

A vulnerability in the libXi library allows a malicious or compromised X server to cause a client-side Denial of Service (DoS) or limited information disclosure. The flaw arises from improper validation of button data length in X Input Extension (XI2) events, leading to out-of-bounds memory reads. Exploitation requires a client application to connect to an untrusted or compromised X server, which is uncommon in standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments. The vulnerability primarily results in application crashes or limited adjacent memory exposure without enabling code execution or privilege escalation.
