Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-84668 affects Jenkins SAML Plugin versions 4.618.v441a_27fa_46d2 and earlier. The vulnerability arises from improper handling of Stapler data binding, which allows an attacker with limited privileges to overwrite the SAML identity provider metadata file. By replacing this file with attacker-controlled content, the attacker can bypass authentication controls and impersonate any user within the Jenkins environment.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows an attacker to fully compromise authentication by impersonating any user, leading to complete confidentiality, integrity, and availability loss within the affected Jenkins instance.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, restrict access to Jenkins SAML Plugin configuration and monitor for unauthorized changes to identity provider metadata files.
