Technical Analysis
The openPDC STTP-based data publisher accepts unauthenticated network connections in its default configuration, allowing unauthenticated attackers to connect and exchange data. This is classified as CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function). The vulnerability affects versions prior to 2.9.477, 2.9.482, 2.8.580, and 2.8.585. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 5.3 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, low complexity, no privileges or user interaction required, and limited confidentiality impact. No known exploits are reported in the wild, and no vendor patch or advisory is currently provided.
Potential Impact
An unauthenticated network attacker can connect to the STTP-based data publisher interface and exchange data without authentication. The impact is limited to confidentiality as per the CVSS vector, with no integrity or availability impact reported. This could potentially expose sensitive data transmitted via this interface.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider restricting network access to the STTP-based data publisher interface to trusted hosts only, or implement network-level controls to prevent unauthorized connections.
