Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-85569 is a privilege management vulnerability in the Tutor LMS WordPress plugin before version 4.0.8. The plugin does not properly determine whether an incoming request is addressed to its REST API and fails to enforce the permission level recorded against an API credential. Consequently, an attacker or user possessing a read-only API key can escalate privileges and act as the administrator account that issued the key.

Potential Impact

An attacker with a read-only API key can bypass intended permission restrictions and gain administrator-level access within the Tutor LMS plugin. This could lead to unauthorized administrative actions, potentially compromising the integrity and security of the affected WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Tutor LMS to version 4.0.8 or later, where this privilege management issue has been addressed. No other mitigation guidance is provided or necessary as the fix is available in the updated version.
