Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-85571 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in the Tutor LMS WordPress plugin before version 4.1.1. The plugin fails to verify that posts referenced in course content ordering requests belong to a course managed by the requesting instructor. This allows an instructor-level user to reassign the parent post of arbitrary content, effectively hijacking other instructors' course materials and disrupting content availability.

Potential Impact

Users with instructor-level privileges can manipulate course content ownership by reassigning posts they do not own. This can lead to unauthorized access and modification of other instructors' course content and potentially cause legitimate published content to become inaccessible or unreachable within the LMS environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Tutor LMS to version 4.1.1 or later where this authorization bypass vulnerability is fixed. Since the affected versions are explicitly identified, applying the official update is the recommended remediation.
