Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Formidable Forms

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-85642 is an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability (CWE-400) in the Formidable Forms WordPress plugin prior to version 7.0. The plugin fails to authenticate callers before logging timestamps that enforce rate limits on payment gateway verification requests. As a result, unauthenticated attackers can exhaust the daily allowance, preventing legitimate users from performing verification attempts for a full day.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated attackers can cause denial of service for legitimate payment gateway verification attempts by exhausting the daily rate limit allowance. This disrupts normal plugin functionality related to payment verification for up to 24 hours, potentially impacting website operations that rely on Formidable Forms for payment processing.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Formidable Forms to version 7.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No official patch link is provided, but the affected versions are explicitly stated as prior to 7.0. Until upgrading, be aware of the risk of denial of service via rate limit exhaustion.
