Vendor/Project: Arista Networks
Product: VeloCloud Edge

Description

CVE-2026-86109 is a vulnerability in Arista Networks VeloCloud Edge software where the update workflow does not properly verify cryptographic signatures. The software update process accepts update bundles without restricting the digest algorithm used for verification, potentially allowing attackers with sufficient privileges or access to install unauthorized software. This vulnerability affects multiple versions of VeloCloud Edge from initial releases up to version 6.4.1.x.

Technical Analysis

The VeloCloud Edge software update workflow may accept update bundles without properly validating their cryptographic signatures because it does not restrict the digest algorithm used for artifact verification. This improper verification (CWE-347) could allow an attacker with privileges to upload packages to the VeloCloud Orchestrator or credentials permitting direct access to an Edge device to install unauthorized software. The vulnerability affects versions >=0.0.0 <5.2.0, >=5.2.0 <=5.2.6.x, >=6.1.0 <=6.1.4.x, and >=6.4.0 <=6.4.1.x. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 6.6, indicating medium severity with network attack vector, high privileges required, and impacts on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

An attacker with sufficient privileges to upload packages to the VeloCloud Orchestrator or with credentials to access an Edge device could exploit this vulnerability to install unauthorized software. This could lead to full compromise of the device's confidentiality, integrity, and availability. No known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, restrict access to the VeloCloud Orchestrator and Edge devices to trusted administrators only to reduce risk.
