Source: CVE Database V5
Product: MasterStudy LMS WordPress Plugin

Description

The MasterStudy LMS WordPress Plugin WordPress plugin before 3.7.50 does not validate one of its display-style settings before using it to build a template path, allowing users with the Contributor role and above to include and execute arbitrary local PHP files on the server. An equivalent path was corrected in an earlier release and this one was not, so the issue persists in versions the earlier advisory reports as fixed.

Technical Analysis

The MasterStudy LMS WordPress Plugin before version 3.7.50 contains a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) due to improper validation of a display-style setting used in constructing a template path. This allows authenticated users with Contributor role or above to include and execute arbitrary local PHP files on the server. Although a related path traversal was fixed in an earlier release, this specific issue remains unpatched in affected versions.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Contributor or higher privileges can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary local PHP files on the server, potentially leading to unauthorized code execution within the context of the web server. This can compromise the integrity and confidentiality of the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, restrict Contributor and higher roles from untrusted users and monitor for suspicious activity related to template path manipulation.
