CVE-2026-89312: CWE-248 Uncaught Exception in Eclipse Foundation Eclipse KeyPont - GOSE
Description
CVE-2026-89312 is a vulnerability in Eclipse Foundation's Eclipse KeyPont - GOSE where the AesGcmCryptor.Open function passes a caller-supplied nonce directly to cipher.AEAD.Open without validating its length. The Go standard library panics if the GCM nonce length is incorrect, causing the decrypting goroutine to crash when processing a JWE with a wrong-sized IV. This affects multiple versions of the product prior to 1.0.0-rc4.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability arises because AesGcmCryptor.Open does not check the length of the nonce before passing it to cipher.AEAD.Open. The Go standard library requires the nonce to be exactly NonceSize() bytes; otherwise, it panics instead of returning an error. This unchecked input can cause a panic and crash the decrypting goroutine when a JSON Web Encryption (JWE) message carries an incorrectly sized initialization vector (IV). The affected versions include >=0.7.3 <=0.13.0-rc1 and >=0 <1.0.0-rc4 of Eclipse KeyPont - GOSE.
Potential Impact
An attacker can cause a denial of service by sending a JWE with an incorrectly sized IV, which triggers a panic in the Go standard library and crashes the decrypting goroutine. There is no indication of privilege escalation, data disclosure, or code execution from this vulnerability. The impact is limited to availability disruption of the affected component.
Mitigation Recommendations
No patch or official fix information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should validate nonce lengths before passing them to AesGcmCryptor.Open to prevent panics.
