Description

CVE-2026-89318 is a vulnerability in Eclipse KeyPont - GOSE where the Decrypt function passes an incorrectly sized initialization vector (IV) to the Go standard library's AEAD Open method without validating its length. This causes the Go library to panic, crashing the decrypting goroutine. The issue affects versions from 0 up to 1.0.0-rc4, including some release candidates. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 6.9.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability arises because the JweRsaKeyEncryptionDecryptorImpl.Decrypt method does not verify the length of the JWE's initialization vector before passing it to cipher.AEAD.Open. The Go standard library's GCM implementation panics if the nonce (IV) length is not exactly NonceSize() bytes, leading to a crash of the decrypting goroutine when a JWE contains a wrong-sized IV. This is classified as CWE-248 (Uncaught Exception).

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause the decrypting goroutine to crash by sending a JWE with an incorrectly sized initialization vector. This results in denial of service for the affected process or service handling the decryption. There is no indication of privilege escalation or data compromise from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix is currently referenced. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should validate the size of the initialization vector before decryption to prevent passing invalid IVs to the cipher.AEAD.Open method.
