AI-suggested
A fix is available that corrects the loop condition to prevent the off-by-one out-of-bounds access. Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes this patch. Since this is a kernel module issue, applying the official kernel update or backported patch is the recommended remediation. No other mitigation is required as the issue is resolved by this fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's forcedeth driver involves an off-by-one error when saving and restoring non-PCI configuration space during suspend and resume operations. This error causes an out-of-bounds array access, which can trigger kernel aborts under UBSAN and results in one dword MMIO read and write beyond the mapped register space. The issue was reported on certain hardware during deep S3 suspend cycles. The root cause is a loop iterating one time too many, accessing memory just past the allocated array. This flaw does not corrupt observable data but can cause kernel crashes and undefined behavior.
