A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel source code as indicated by the fixed commit versions. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version including these fixes to resolve the issue. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-89598 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fbdev subsystem affecting the ssd1307fb driver. The issue arises because the fbdev damage callbacks perform synchronous I2C transfers from atomic context, which is unsafe and can lead to kernel warnings and potential system instability. This has been observed on RK3566 systems where the kernel attempts to schedule while preemption is disabled, causing watchdog and scheduling errors. The vulnerability has been addressed by deferring I2C transfers from damage callbacks to avoid sleeping in atomic context.
