AI-suggested
A fix is available that addresses the vulnerability by adding proper checks to ensure the current request's slot ID is below the shrink boundary and by deferring session slot freeing if any slots are currently in use. Users should apply the official patches or upgrade to fixed Linux kernel versions. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, updating the kernel to a patched version is the recommended remediation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFS server (nfsd) allows improper freeing of session slots that are still in use during the nfsd4_sequence() operation. This can lead to use-after-free conditions and memory corruption when session slots are freed incorrectly while still being processed. The flaw arises because the slot ID is not properly checked against the session shrink boundary, allowing a client to trigger freeing of its own active slot. The issue affects specific Linux kernel versions and has been resolved by adding proper slot ID checks and deferring freeing if slots are in use.
