A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users should update to a patched Linux Azure kernel version that includes the fix for CVE-2026-89816. Patch status is confirmed by the description of the resolved issue. No additional mitigation is indicated.
Description
A memory leak vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) subsystem was fixed. The issue occurs when a drm_crtc_commit operation leaks memory if signaled while using PAGE_FLIP_EVENT. This happens because an event allocated in prepare_signaling() is set to NULL in complete_signaling() without properly dropping the reference, causing a leak. The flaw affects certain Linux Azure kernel versions and was observed with amdgpu and vkms drivers.
