A fix is available that adds proper bounds checking on the variable-length WPS attribute data before copying. Users should update to patched Linux kernel versions that include this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, applying the official kernel updates from the vendor or distribution is the recommended remediation. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's rtl8723bs staging driver allows an attacker to cause an out-of-bounds read and a stack buffer overflow via crafted WPS attributes in wireless management frames. The flaw arises because the length of WPS attributes is not properly validated before being used in memory copy operations. This can lead to memory corruption and potential code execution in the parsing thread. The issue has been fixed by adding proper bounds checking on the attribute length before copying data.
