A fix is available for this vulnerability. Users should update to patched Linux kernel versions that include the fix for CVE-2026-90041. Since this is a kernel-level issue, applying the official kernel updates from the Linux distribution or vendor is the recommended remediation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's HID sony driver was resolved that involved improper cleanup of device list entries on probe failure. The flaw caused freed memory to remain linked in the device list, leading to potential use-after-free conditions when traversing controllers. This was due to sony_input_configured() adding controllers before input devices were fully registered, and sony_probe() not fully cleaning up on failure. The issue was fixed by initializing list nodes and device IDs to inactive states and making list removal idempotent.
