AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel as indicated by multiple fixed commits. Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes these fixes. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

A buffer leak vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel's SMB client implementation in the smb2_new_read_req() function. The function allocates a request buffer but can return early on certain errors without releasing the buffer, causing a memory leak. This issue affects only the asynchronous SMB2 read path and can lead to repeated buffer leaks on retry attempts.
