AI-suggested
A patch series has been released that validates active orphan slots during inode read, rejecting corrupted metadata before it can cause memory corruption. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No alternative mitigations are specified.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's OCFS2 filesystem allows corrupted orphan slot metadata to cause out-of-bounds memory access during inode processing. This occurs because the active ordinary orphan slot was not validated properly, leading to potential memory corruption. The issue has been resolved by adding validation checks to reject corrupted orphan slots before inode wipe processing.
