A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to sanitize the bounce payload and prevent leaking kernel pointers. Users should update to a patched kernel version that includes this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, applying the official kernel update from the Linux distribution vendor is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigations are specified or required.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA sequencer subsystem could leak kernel memory addresses to unprivileged userspace clients. This occurs when the bounce payload embeds a pointer to an extension cell in a variable-length event, which is then exposed verbatim to userspace. The flaw allows an unprivileged client to obtain eight bytes of kernel memory from its own pool by setting a specific filter, queueing an event to a non-existent port, and reading the bounce back. This issue has been resolved by embedding a sanitized copy of the event instead of leaking the pointer.
