Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: NI
Product: grpc-device

Description

NI grpc-device versions 2.17.0 and earlier contain a vulnerability due to missing authentication for a critical function when TLS is not configured and the server is accessible beyond the loopback interface. This allows unauthenticated users on the local network to access the server. The vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS score of 9.1.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-9142 describes a missing authentication vulnerability (CWE-306) in NI grpc-device. When TLS is not configured and the server is bound to interfaces beyond loopback, the server uses insecure default credentials, permitting unauthenticated local network access. This affects versions 2.17.0 and earlier. No official patch or remediation guidance is currently provided by the vendor.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker on the local network can gain unauthorized access to the NI grpc-device server, potentially leading to full confidentiality and integrity compromise of the device functions exposed by the server. Availability impact is not indicated.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, ensure TLS is properly configured and the server is bound only to the loopback interface to prevent unauthorized network access.
