Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: NI
Product: grpc-device

Description

There is an incorrect conversion between numeric types vulnerability in NI grpc-device due to missing range checks in CodeGen.  This may silently discard high bits if a size value exceeded the target type's range. This affects NI grpc-device 2.17.0 and prior versions.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability arises from an incorrect numeric type conversion in NI grpc-device caused by missing range checks in the CodeGen component. When a size value exceeds the range of the target numeric type, high bits may be silently discarded, which can lead to incorrect internal values. The issue affects all versions prior to 2.17.1. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 3.7, reflecting a low severity impact with no confidentiality or availability impact, only limited integrity impact. No official fix or mitigation has been disclosed by the vendor as of the publication date.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability may result in incorrect internal numeric values due to silent truncation of size values exceeding the target type's range. This can cause limited integrity issues within the affected software but does not impact confidentiality or availability. No known exploitation has been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official fix or remediation level has been published, users should monitor NI's advisories for updates. No specific mitigations are currently documented.
