Technical Analysis

This vulnerability exists in PbootCMS up to version 3.2.22 in the decode_string function of apps/admin/controller/content/ContentController.php. Manipulating the Title parameter can lead to cross-site scripting, enabling attackers to inject malicious scripts remotely. The vulnerability has a CVSS 4.0 base score of 5.1 (medium severity), indicating it requires low attack complexity and no privileges but user interaction. The GitHub issue related to this vulnerability was closed with a status of 'completed'.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary scripts in the context of the affected web application, potentially leading to session hijacking, defacement, or other client-side attacks. However, the vulnerability requires user interaction and low privileges, limiting the scope of impact. There is no evidence of active exploitation in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official patch or fix link is provided, users should monitor the vendor's channels for updates. Until a fix is available, consider applying input validation or sanitization on the Title parameter to mitigate XSS risks.
