A fix is available that replaces the unsafe strstr() call with strnstr() bounded by the buffer size. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel versions containing this fix. No additional mitigation is required beyond updating to a patched kernel.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's octeontx2-af driver caused an out-of-bounds read during MSI-X interrupt affinity setting. The function rvu_register_interrupts() scans MSI-X vectors using strstr() on irq_name buffers, which may be uninitialized, leading to a kernel address sanitizer (KASAN) slab-out-of-bounds read at boot with debug options enabled. The issue is fixed by replacing strstr() with strnstr() to limit the search within the buffer size.
