Technical Analysis
This vulnerability (CWE-78) exists in the REST API management interface of Brocade Fabric OS. Authenticated users with administrative privileges to configure SSH known host settings can inject OS commands via specially crafted parameter values containing shell metacharacters. This leads to arbitrary command execution with root privileges on the host system. The affected versions are all versions before 9.2.2d and versions from 10.0.0 up to and including 10.0.0a1.
Potential Impact
An attacker with administrative privileges can execute arbitrary system commands as root, potentially leading to full system compromise. This elevates the risk of unauthorized control over the affected device and its operations.
Mitigation Recommendations
No explicit patch or remediation details are provided in the vendor advisory. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict administrative access to the REST API and SSH known host configuration to trusted personnel only.
