Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-78) exists in the handling of configuration download or file transfer operations in Brocade Fabric OS WebTools. Authenticated users authorized to perform configuration downloads using remote server profiles can inject OS commands via malicious parameter strings. Successful exploitation results in arbitrary shell command execution with root privileges on the affected switch. The affected versions are all releases prior to 9.2.2d and versions 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated access and appropriate permissions can execute arbitrary commands as root on the switch, potentially leading to full system compromise, unauthorized control, and disruption of network operations.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict administrative access to trusted users only and limit permissions for configuration downloads. Monitor for any unusual activity related to configuration operations.
