Red Hat has released updated freetype packages (version 2.14.3-2.1.hum1) for Red Hat Hardened Images that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these security updates to remediate the issue. No alternative mitigations meeting Red Hat's criteria for ease of use and applicability are currently available. Applying the official update is the recommended remediation.
Description
CVE-2026-95512 is a vulnerability in the FreeType library's CID font loader used in Red Hat Hardened Images. A remote attacker can cause excessive memory and CPU consumption by tricking a user into opening content with a specially crafted CID-keyed font. This leads to repeated allocations and decryptions of subroutine data, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) that may cause the affected application or service to hang or terminate. Red Hat has released updated RPM packages that address this issue.
