Description

CVE-2026-97164 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Event Gallery extension for Joomla by svenbluege.de. Versions from 1.0.0 up to and including 6.0.0 are affected. Technical Analysis

The Event Gallery extension for Joomla (svenbluege.de) versions 1.0.0 through 6.0.0 contain a CWE-22 vulnerability that permits authenticated users with high privileges to delete arbitrary directories recursively. This occurs through the 'clear cache' task, specifically by manipulating the 'images' parameter of the 'cache.process' task. The vulnerability arises because the pathname is not properly restricted to safe directories, allowing deletion of any directory writable by the web server.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated access and high privileges can delete arbitrary directories recursively on the server within the web server's writable scope. This can cause data loss, disruption of service, and potential denial of service conditions for the affected Joomla site.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to users with high privileges and monitor usage of the 'clear cache' functionality carefully.
