A fix is available that bounds the loop condition to the full size of each attribute definition entry and rejects mounting volumes with insufficient $AttrDef data size. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on applying vendor patches. Patch status is not explicitly stated here; check the vendor advisory for current patch availability and guidance.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS driver allows out-of-bounds reads due to improper bounds checking when walking the in-memory $AttrDef table. The loop condition only bounds the start of each entry, not the entire entry, leading to potential reads beyond allocated memory if the $AttrDef data size is smaller than one entry. This can cause kernel memory corruption and crashes.
