A fix is available and has been applied in multiple Linux kernel commits. The patch replaces simple_strtoul() with kstrtouint() for parsing poll_msec, preventing truncation and rejecting invalid values. Systems should be updated to a Linux kernel version that includes these fixes. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's EDAC device_sysfs interface involves improper handling of the poll_msec parameter. The original code used simple_strtoul() to parse this value, which accepts an unsigned long, but the poll_msec field is an unsigned int. On 64-bit systems, values larger than UINT_MAX are silently truncated, potentially causing unintended behavior. The issue is fixed by switching to kstrtouint(), which rejects values exceeding UINT_MAX and also rejects zero values to prevent CPU spinning.
