AI-suggested
A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel as of commit cee9395acd80 (Linux 7.3-rc1). The patch caps the available length to the buffer size and validates mode header and block descriptor lengths before accessing the ATA feature mode page. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions containing these commits to remediate the vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SCSI core component (scsi_cdl_enable) allows a specially crafted USB storage device that identifies as an ATA device with CDL support to cause out-of-bounds reads from the kernel stack. This occurs due to improper validation of MODE SENSE length fields, leading to potential disclosure of kernel stack contents during device enumeration without requiring filesystem mount or user access.
