Description
CVE-2026-98261 is a high-severity use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's CIFS client implementation. The flaw occurs in the function cifs_chan_skip_or_disable() when handling secondary channels no longer supported by the server. The vulnerability arises because the code drops the channel reference before signaling the server for reconnect, potentially accessing freed memory. This can lead to memory corruption with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions and has been fixed in versions 6.6.158, 6.8, and others.
