AI-suggested
A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to make zap_pid_ns_processes() freezable by adjusting the sleep states in the wait loops. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix once available. No alternative mitigations are described in the advisory.
Description
A Linux kernel vulnerability in the pid_namespace subsystem causes zap_pid_ns_processes() to be non-freezable, leading to indefinite waits when the init process of a pid namespace exits. This issue affects the kernel's ability to freeze tasks, causing suspend attempts to fail. The problem arises when a tracer outside the namespace does not reap traced zombies, keeping pids allocated indefinitely. This was notably triggered by Chromium-based browsers using crashpad for crash dumps.
