Description

Deskflow versions prior to 1.26.0.167 contain a remote, unauthenticated denial of service vulnerability affecting servers running with TLS enabled. An attacker can cause the server's main worker thread to block for about one second by sending malformed TLS handshake data, disrupting input delivery to all connected clients. Sustained malformed connection attempts can render the server unusable. This vulnerability has been fixed in version 1.26.0.167.

Technical Analysis

Deskflow is a keyboard and mouse sharing application. Versions before 1.26.0.167 have a denial of service vulnerability when TLS is enabled (default setting). If a TCP peer connects and sends data that does not parse as a valid TLS ClientHello, the server's SecureSocket::secureAccept function triggers a fatal error branch that causes the multiplexer worker thread to sleep for one second. This thread handles all socket connections, so this sleep blocks input events (mouse, keyboard, clipboard) for all connected clients. A sustained rate of malformed connections (one or more per second) can keep the server effectively unusable. The issue is resolved in version 1.26.0.167.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause a denial of service by sending malformed TLS handshake data to the Deskflow server, resulting in a one-second blocking delay on the main worker thread. Repeated attempts can stall all input delivery to connected clients, making the server unusable during the attack. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, only availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Deskflow to version 1.26.0.167 or later, where this denial of service vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated.
